When the Dallas Cowboys surrendered a 2027 first-round pick, a 2026 second-round pick, and Mazi Smith to acquire Quinnen Williams from the New York Jets, Jerry Jones and company hoped they’d secured their next great interior defender.
On paper, the bet looked fairly likely to hit, as Williams has been one of the better defensive tackles in the NFL over the past half-decade with a resume to prove it, but when a player gets traded to a new team mid-season, it’s anyone’s guess how quickly he will be able to acclimate to a new role in a new scheme.
Fortunate for Cowboys Nation, if the Week 11 edition of Monday Night Football is of any indication, it looks like Williams has silenced any doubts about his impact in blue and white right out of the gates, as in the first half against the Las Vegas Raiders, the Alabama native dominated Geno Smith and even notched his first sack on an impressive bull rush.

Known more for his pass-rushing prowess than his run-stuffing abilities, Williams was having a relatively quiet season for the Jets before the trade deadline, recording just one sack on 365 defensive snaps for a New York defense that couldn’t seem to get much going on either side of the ball. Though the sample size may be small, Williams has already more than doubled his 2025 sack total and continues to dominate a Raiders offensive line that has struggled to keep Smith upright on national television. If he continues to shine, who knows, maybe the Williams trade will look like a bargain by Thanksgiving.
