According to multiple reports, including NFL Insider Jordan Schultz, quarterback Sam Ehlinger turned down two opportunities to sign with other teams on their 53-man roster to join the Broncos’ practice squad.

Schultz reports that Ehlinger, who the Broncos released on Tuesday, loves the Broncos quarterback room, believes in the team and their bright future, and wants to be part of it. The Broncos’ strong culture that was built from scratch by Head Coach Sean Payton has players wanting to stay with the Broncos and believing in the future success of this team.

Ehlinger turned down two opportunities to be on a 53-man roster and potentially be a backup quarterback to be the Broncos’ third-string quarterback behind Bo Nix and Jarrett Stidham. You like to see players choosing to stay with the team even if they have offers elsewhere.

He is coming off a strong summer, which saw him play well during training camp and continue that through the preseason. The Broncos liked what they saw from him on and off the field, and obviously, Ehlinger enjoyed his time with the team and chose to return. Now, he’ll continue to work with coaches Sean Payton and Davis Webb while also staying in a quarterback room that he seems to love. Quarterback Zach Wilson mentioned how much he enjoyed his time with the Broncos and their quarterback room, so it sounds like Nix and Stidham are creating a good culture in that quarterback room.

I’m glad Ehlinger is back and that they were able to keep him around without giving up a roster spot. He’s a solid third-string quarterback who has starting experience under his belt and has the ability to run the Broncos’ offense if called on. Hopefully, we never see Ehlinger play this season, but if he does, hopefully, he performs well and is able to lead the Broncos offense.
