The tushes shall continue to be pushed after all

The most controversial play in the NFL will live to see another season.

At today’s NFL Owners Meetings in Minneapolis, a proposal put forth by the Green Bay Packers to ban the tush push, a play that the Philadelphia Eagles have perfected and other teams have tried with varying results, failed to get the required support to be implemented by the league. The vote was , reportedly, 22-10, but 24 votes were required to put the rule in place for the upcoming season.

There had been various reasons put forth for banning the play, including player safety. . .even though there haven’t been any notable injuries as a result of the play.

Had the proposal passed, it would have banned not only the tush push, but also any other play in which a ball carrier is pushed along by his teammates. That would mean any play where a ball carrier is stopped and then has a posse of offensive linemen or other players pushing him towards the first down marker or goal line would have been taken away as well. But nobody has to worry about that not, as those plays will continue to be a part of the game for the 2025 season.

That means our Minnesota Vikings will likely see the tush push at U.S. Bank Stadium this season when the Eagles come to town in Week 7.

What do you think of this news? Do you believe that these sorts of plays should have been banned by the league?
