It looked like the Ravens were going to coast to an easy win over the Bills in their season opener on Sunday night based on how things were looking toward the end of the fourth quarter. However, that did not end up being the case, and one man who’d wagered $200,000 on Baltimore will probably think twice about counting his winning before the bet actually cashes.
There are a number of adages that stress the importance of waiting until a game has officially ended until you celebrate the end result, and most sports fans have learned you don’t want to count your chickens before their eggs hatch and wait for the fat lady to sing due to the many shocking developments that have cemented the fact that it ain’t over til it’s over.
We were treated to our latest piece of evidence supporting that reality thanks to what unfolded when the Ravens headed up to Buffalo to kick off their season against the Bills on Sunday in a game where it seemed like Baltimore was going to avenge its loss in the playoffs last year.
However, that did not end up being the case, and one guy who was looking at a very sizeable payday ended up getting a brutal punch to the gut after prematurely bragging about the windfall he didn’t end up receiving.
The Ravens headed into Sunday night’s contest as 1.5-point favorites, and Sean Perry, a professional sports bettor who chronicles his exploits online, opted to take the Baltimore moneyline with a $200,000 bet that would net him $181,818.20 if they managed to get the victory.
Perry made the trip to Buffalo to watch the action unfold in person, and it was hard to blame him for feeling confident based on how things were looking in the second half. The Ravens had a win probability of over 85% after pulling out to a 27-13 lead a few minutes into the third quarter, and Perry decided to fire a shot at the sportsbook at Circa over what seemed like an inevitable payday.

Baltimore’s chances of winning peaked at 99.1% with around five minutes left in the fourth thanks to the 40-25 lead they had at that point, and it was still north of 95% after Buffalo narrowed the deficit to eight points less than 60 seconds later.
Things got much more interesting after the Bills capitalized on a Derrick Henry fumble and had the chance to tie the game with a two-point conversion, but the Ravens were still seemingly in command after it failed before getting the ball back up 40-38...
