Primanti Bros. made a “bold and mildly petty” announcement ahead of Monday night’s Steelers-Texans AFC Wild Card game at Acrisure Stadium.
The Pittsburgh staple is banning cowboy hats through the Steelers’ playoff game against the Texans on Monday night.
“Listen, according to my mom, it’s bad manners to wear a hat inside,” Primanti Bros. spokesperson Ryan Wilkerson said in a statement, via our partners at WPXI.
The ban includes all styles of cowboy hats — cattleman, pinch front, brick crown, open crown, flat brim, rolled brim and 10-gallon style hats.
“We’re also totally cool with painted faces, black and gold Zubaz pants and hard hats,” Wilkerson said.
Pittsburgh and Houston play at 8:15 p.m. Monday. Primantis will be offering specials during the game.
This is not the first time that Primanti Bros. made a ban ahead of a Steelers playoff game. Prior to the Steelers-Dolphins 2016 Wild Card game, the chain banned serving fish on its sandwiches or anywhere else until after the game. The Steelers beat Miami, 30-16.
Perhaps the ban on cowboy hats will give the Steelers good mojo against Houston.
Mike Tomlin and the Steelers will try to snap their dreaded six-game playoff losing streak on Monday night against the Texans in the AFC Wild Card game.
The Steelers have not won a playoff game since Jan. 15, 2017. It’s the longest playoff win drought for the franchise since pre-1972.
Outside of the 45-42 Divisional Round loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars, the five other Steelers’ playoff losses have been 10+ point losses during the six-game losing streak. The Steelers trailed 21-0 to open the game against Jacksonville, however.
The Steelers largest deficits during six-game playoff losing streak have been 27, 21, 28, 28, 21 and 21 points. They are the only team in playoff history to trail by 21+ in six straight (nobody else has done it in even four straight), according to Doug Clawson of CBS Sports.
