President Donald Trump took a shot at the New York Jets while introducing Tim Tebow at the White House on Wednesday.
Donald Trump welcomed the Florida Gators men’s basketball team to the White House to celebrate their 2025 national championship. Former Gators quarterback Tim Tebow, who led the football team to two national championships, was at the ceremony.
While introducing Tebow to the crowd, Trump praised him as arguably “the best (college football player) ever.” Trump curiously referred to Tebow as an NFL legend despite lasting just three seasons in the NFL, before throwing shade at the former QB’s old team.
“And you did damn well in the pros too, despite being on the Jets, you did damn well,” Donald Trump said. “Come on up here, Tim. You gotta come up here.”

Tebow was drafted 25th overall by the Denver Broncos in 2010, with then-head coach Josh McDaniels making an aggressive move to trade up for him. The Broncos saw enough from Tebow after two seasons and traded the media darling to the New York Jets after free agent quarterback Peyton Manning in the 2012 offseason.
The Jets tried using Tebow in a variety of roles on offense, but to no avail. After nine years out of the NFL, Tebow was signed by the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2021. His former head coach, Urban Meyer, wanted to try Tebow out at tight end. That also amounted to nothing.
Since his first presidential term began in 2017, fact-checkers have counted tens of thousands of false or misleading statements by Donald Trump. There’s no “official” way to disprove his take on Tebow being an NFL legend, but it’s certainly one of the biggest lies the president ever told.
But hey, nobody can disagree about the dysfunction of the New York Jets these days. Even Jets fans had to laugh at Trump’s comment.
