Another potential threat to the Pittsburgh Steelers has reportedly dropped out of the Aaron Rodgers sweepstakes.

Almost all of free agent quarterback Aaron Rodgers’ options have run out as another team has reportedly dropped out of the sweepstakes. Jeff Duncan of NOLA.com says the New Orleans Saints are not expected to pursue Rodgers following the retirement of quarterback Derek Carr.

“No surprise here, but Aaron Rodgers never really was a consideration for the Saints in the wake of the Derek Carr retirement,” Duncan wrote on X. “At their current stages, they don’t make sense for him, and he doesn’t make sense for them.”

It was never officially reported that the Saints were interested in Rodgers, but many believed it would have made sense.

New Orleans’ quarterback room is now very underwhelming with second-round rookie Tyler Shough, Spencer Rattler and Jake Haener, potentially making the team desperate enough to give Rodgers a call.

The Saints are also in a much weaker division and overall conference than the Steelers, which could be very enticing for the 41-year-old who is likely looking to make one last run at a championship.

However, that will not happen in New Orleans, and makes it even more likely that Rodgers will end up in Pittsburgh. Rodgers’ options seem to be down to Steelers or retirement, barring another unforeseen injury elsewhere.

Pittsburgh has reportedly remained in constant contact with Rodgers and remains confident it will eventually land him.

It’s unclear when that decision will come, but it feels as though it is only a matter of time until Rodgers finally heads to the Steel City for his 21st season in the NFL.
