A possible wide receiver target of the Pittsburgh Steelers seems to be staying put with his current team.

The Pittsburgh Steelers’ search for another wide receiver is still ongoing and another potential option seems to be off the board.

Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur was asked about the likelihood of wide receiver Romeo Doubs not making the team and he quickly shut down any speculation of that happening.

“I’d be very shocked if he was ever going anywhere. No, that will not happen because Rome is out there competing and doing everything that we need to see from him,” LaFleur said on Up & Adams. “Obviously, he’s played a lot of ball for us and at a high level. He’s been a great teammate and he goes out there and you can count on him every day.”

Doubs, 25, is entering the final year of his rookie deal after being selected in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft. If the Packers want to get something in return before potentially losing him next offseason, now could be the time to move on.

Green Bay has also been tabbed as a team that could be open to a trade with an abundance of wide receivers, currently rostering Doubs, Jayden Reed, Christian Watson, Dontayvion Wicks and Mecole Hardman as well as first- and third-round rookies Matthew Golden and Savion Williams.

However, the Packers have suffered several injuries at the position as of late, likely diminishing any chances of them dealing any of their healthy options.

“We don’t have a lot of depth right now. We’re missing a lot of guys,” LaFleur said. “It’s gonna come down to these guys’ ability to go out there and make plays for us.”

Reed is reportedly dealing with a sprained foot, according to Rob Demovsky of ESPN, while Watson is dealing with a knee injury that will likely force him to begin the season on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list.

Doubs would be a very intriguing addition for the Steelers after recording 147 catches for 1,700 yards and 15 touchdowns through the first three years of his NFL career. Unfortunately, that now looks to just be a dream for fans.
