Recently released Gabe Davis had been previously linked to the Steelers, however it was revealed he was released due to a failed physical.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are again in the market for a wide receiver. After trading George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys, the Steelers could use another pass catcher. One receiver linked to fill this void was recently released, Gabe Davis. However, Davis was released with a failed physical designation.

This greatly reduces not only the chances of Pittsburgh’s interest but also Davis’ market. He missed half the season due to a minor knee surgery that could be lingering.

Last offseason, Davis signed a three-year, $39M deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars in free agency. Unfortunately, he did not live up to his $24M guaranteed. Through 10 games, Davis recorded just 20 receptions for 239 yards with two touchdowns.

Before Jacksonville, Davis was a steady target for the Buffalo Bills’ quarterback Josh Allen. He was selected in the fourth-round of the 2020 NFL Draft by the Bills. In his four seasons in Buffalo, he reeled in 163 receptions for over 2,700 yards with 27 touchdowns.

Steelers fans may remember his monster game against the Steelers in 2022. In that game, he caught six passes for 171 yards and two touchdowns, including his career–long 98-yard touchdown. It was also the first career start of former Steelers quarterback Kenny Pickett.

Davis also holds the NFL record for the most touchdown receptions in a postseason contest. He caught eight passes for 201 yards and four touchdowns, including a go-ahead score with 13 seconds left–of course, this was THAT game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Pittsburgh could kick the tires on Davis. They have previously signed veterans with a failed physical, including recently released Larry Ogunjobi in 2022, when he lost a deal with the Chicago Bears after failing their physical.
