The Pittsburgh Steelers could soon have the No. 2 wide receiver they have been searching for.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have been keeping their eyes out for a No. 2 wide receiver since trading George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys in the offseason, and it seems they may finally have a shot at landing one.

Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Jakobi Meyers shared that he still hopes to be dealt with the NFL trade deadline quickly approaching.

“Oh, for sure,” Meyers said via Ryan McFadden of ESPN. “But I’m a professional at the end of the day. I’m just trying to play good football.”

Does he still desire to be traded?

Meyers, 28, did not play in the Raiders’ blowout loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 7 after being listed as questionable with knee and toe injuries. However, head coach Pete Carroll said Meyers is expected to return to health before the trade deadline.

Las Vegas has a bye in Week 8 before the team returns to action with the home game against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 9 on Nov. 2. The NFL trade deadline is two days later, on Nov. 4.

It still remains unclear if the Raiders are even willing to trade Meyers, who has been their clear No. 1 wide receiver, but he isn’t expecting to get a new deal playing in the final year of his contract.

“I honestly haven’t thought about it too much. Like, that window kind of just closed with the offseason in it,” Meyers added. “If it gets done, I don’t care for real. I really just want to be in a good spot for me [and] my family.”

The Steelers did show interest in Meyers after he requested a trade this offseason, but Las Vegas refused to trade him, as the team revamped its offense under Carroll by bringing in quarterback Geno Smith and drafting running back Ashton Jeanty.

However, things have not gone according to plan for the Raiders this season. They lost 31-0 to the Chiefs on Sunday — their second 30-point loss of the season. At 2-5, Las Vegas is in last place in the AFC West, two games behind the Chiefs and Los Angeles Chargers.

The Raiders’ lack of success could have helped them change their mind on Meyers. At least, that’s what the Steelers are hoping for as they continue to fend off the rest of the AFC North.

Through six games, Meyers has 43 targets but just 29 catches for 329 yards and no touchdowns. Trading Meyers could also clear playing time for rookie wide receivers Dont’e Thornton and Jack Bech.
