Potential Pittsburgh Steelers trade deadline target, Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Jakobi Meyers, is expected to return to health before the trade deadline, Raiders head coach Pete Carroll said on Monday.
Meyers did not play for the Raiders in their blowout loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday after being listed as questionable with one hand toe injuries.
The Raiders have a bye in Week 8 before they return to action with the home game against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 9 on Nov. 2. The NFL trade deadline is two days later, on Nov. 4.
The Steelers showed interest in Meyers after he requested a trade this offseason, but the Raiders refused to trade him, as the team revamped its offense under Carroll by bringing in quarterback Geno Smith and drafting running back Ashton Jeanty.
But things have not gone according to plan for the Raiders this season. They lost 31-0 to the Chiefs on Sunday โ their second 30-point loss of the season. At 2-5, Las Vegas is in last place in the AFC West, two games behind the Chiefs and Los Angeles Chargers.
So the lack of team success may have the Raider changing their tune on Meyers. He also has not been overwhelmingly productive. Through six games, he has 43 targets, but just 29 catches for 329 yards and no touchdowns. Trading Meyers could clear playing time for rookies Dontโe Thornton and Jack Bech.
The Steelers have been in the market for a wide receiver since trading George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys in May, and Meyers would fit what they donโt have as an outside receiver who can stretch the field.
