The Houston Texans want some help for Joe Mixon, but it looks like something else is going on behind the scenes.
The Houston Texans reportedly will bolster their running back room. Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported the team plans to sign veteran running back Nick Chubb on Monday, pending a physical.
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler first reported on SportsCenter Sunday that the team was eyeing the free-agent running back to join the backfield alongside Mixon.
Popular doctor Jesse Morse is now blowing the whistle that there may be more to this signing.
Morse took to X, formerly Twitter, and stated, “I’m starting to get concerned about Joe Mixon.”
He then mentions his high ankle sprain during the 2024 season, which caused him to miss three games. Morse added that Mixon was spotted in a walking boot after having surgery this offseason.
“What are the Texans not telling us about Mixon’s injury?” he asked at the end.
I’m starting to get concerned about Joe Mixon.
High-ankle sprain in 2024 – missed 3 games
Recently spotted in a walking boot after having an offseason foot/ankle/leg (?) surgery. There’s been no details released yet.
The Texans have recently been linked to multiple RBs working…

There has been no mention of Mixon having offseason surgery as of now.
If Joe Mixon has had surgery recently, then that explains why the team is trying to sign Nick Chubb.
It never hurts to have multiple good running backs, especially as they enter the veteran stages of their careers. Chubb is far from his old self, but he’d be a fun addition next to Mixon to see if it pans out.
After multiple injuries in recent years, Chubb could benefit from the reduced workload he’d likely see next to Mixon.
Houston Texans running back Joe Mixon had a season to remember.
Last March, Houston traded for Mixon to help with their championship aspirations. Mixon is signed through 2026 after inking a three-year, $27 million extension in March 2024.
The Oklahoma product finished with 1,016 rushing yards, 309 receiving yards, and 12 total touchdowns. He provided them with a quality ball carrier in the backfield and looks to build off his solid season in 2025.
