Something big just happened in the world of professional cheerleading, and the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders aren’t staying quiet about it. After years of pushing for better compensation, the iconic squad is finally getting what many say is long overdue, a significant pay raise.
A 400 percent increase in pay will take effect this fall, and for the women who dedicate countless hours to rehearsals, game days, and appearances, it’s nothing short of game-changing. Netflix’s America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders broke the news in its latest episode, where four-year veteran Megan McElaney confirmed the raise.
“Our efforts were heard and they wanted to give us a raise,” McElaney said, via ABC News. “And we ended up getting a 400% increase, which is like, life-changing.”
Former Cowboys cheerleader Claire Wolford needed just three words to show how she felt about the news: “Let’s go girls.” She posted the message on Instagram shortly after news of the pay raise surfaced, sending a wave of excitement through fans and former teammates alike.
Wolford, who spent four seasons on the squad before retiring in May 2024, has never hidden her love for the DCC. “I’ve looked up to the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders since I was a little girl,” she once said. “They are incredibly talented, well-rounded, and sophisticated women with a passion for performing and serving their community.” Her social media still reflects that pride and support, and this week was no exception.
Back in 2024, cheerleaders like Jada McLean were earning around $15 an hour and receiving $500 per appearance. McLean, no longer on the team, still shared her emotions about the raise. “Happy isn’t even the right word for it,” she said. “I think I was just… kind of felt, like, a relief — like everything had paid off.”
For Wolford, McElaney, and dozens of others who’ve put in the work, this raise marks more than just a financial boost. It’s recognition finally of their role in one of the NFL’s most celebrated traditions. And judging by Wolford’s response, the celebration has only just begun.
