Newly released police body cam video shows former NFL quarterback Jay Cutler getting cuffed and arrested for DUI and gun possession in October 2024. Cutler was being arrested after crashing into another car while inebriated.

In the video, it first appears to be just a routine call with an officer and Cutler discussing things like his insurance and Jay showing him his driver’s license. Things turn quickly for Cutler when the Perry Lee, the driver of the other vehicle, tells the officer that Jay “tried to get away.”

Then one of the officers asks Jay Cutler how much he had been drinking. Jay, pauses, says he hadn’t had any, then admits he had been drinking “a little bit.” Considering blood tests taken at a local medical facility showed a 0.23 blood-alcohol level (the legal limit there is 0.08), Cutler had been drinking more than just a “little bit.” Also, for some reason, Cutler has two pairs of sunglasses, one appearing to be a woman’s, clipped over the neck of his t-shirt.

The officer then asks Jay Cutler is he would be willing to take a field sobriety test, to which the former NFL, without any hesitation, tells him, “No.” That response leads to Cutler immediately being turned around by the officer who then places handcuffs on him.

When the officer tells Cutler that he is under arrest for driving under the influence, Jay merely answers, “Okay.” He is then searched and walked to the officer’s vehicle without any putting up any resistance.

Jay Cutler, according to the arrest affidavit, had already spoken to Lee and allegedly offered him $2,000 to not involve the police prior to the bodycam video being taken. Lee is now seeking unspecified damages in a lawsuit for alleged injuries suffered in the crash which “cause him daily pain and have eroded his quality of life.”

Earlier this month, Cutler was supposed to serve a four-day jail sentence after agreeing to plead guilty to the driving under the influence charge, but he was released after less than three days in the Williamson County Jail. As part of his plea deal, Cutler was forced to forfeit a loaded Glock handgun that he had in his possession at the time of his arrest, surrender his Tennessee driver’s license, pay a $350 fine, be on unsupervised probation for one year, and must attend a DUI safety class.

He has not commented publicly on his arrest, his incarceration, or the lawsuit that was filed against him by Lee.
