Plays That Defined the 2024 Bills: Away Games semifinal

Plays That Defined the 2024 Bills: Away Games semifinal
Buffalo Rumblings Buffalo Rumblings

We’ve settled on a single play from each game to represent or “illustrate” that part of the Buffalo Bills’ 2024 season. Now it’s time to pit those plays against each other in a ruthless contest to decide what play stands above them all to be crowned the Play That Defines the 2024 Season.

Which moment will join the hall of awesome started with Josh Allen Jumping Over Things?

Game 1

Controversial spot (Three Seed)

vs.

James Cook’s TD against Lions (10 Seed)

The Away Games bracket had a few surprises in store for me last round. I’m not remotely shocked that number three seed “Controversial Spot” advanced. However, James Cook’s TD was up against Derrick Henry’s long touchdown against Buffalo in the regular season and I felt that was a strong contender. There were bigger surprises so, so stay tuned.

Which of these two plays better defines/illustrates the Bills’ 2024 season? This is a tale of woe vs. triumph featuring two of the biggest stars on the team. One illustrates how the season ended, the other illustrates a larger swathe of how it went.

Game 2

Seattle Stopped on 4th Down (Two Seed)

vs.

Ja’Marcus Ingram’s pick-six against Dolphins (Nine Seed)

Both of these results were surprising to me. The fourth-down stop against Seattle went up against Josh Allen’s sole play against the Patriots to continue his games started streak. Taking down not only Josh Allen smiling but a play that represented the entirety of the Bills’ pretty dominant regular season was a big shock to me. It was a fairly comfortable win, gaining nearly two-thirds of the vote. I won’t try to project any narrative onto this so the reader can decide on their own, but the comedy of the play alone may be a big help.

The biggest upset to me was Ja’Marcus Ingram’s pick-six taking down another pick-six featuring Taron Johnson. In the end, it felt like the weight of the game was the likely factor that decided it. Ingram’s score itself was irrelevant, but it came in a game that displayed the division dominance. This was a close affair though, with Ingram winning by a mere two votes. Can the Cinderella story continue for Ingram’s pick six.
