Not this **** again
The Buffalo Bills’ 2024 season has been written. So let’s add some “illustrations!” If you’re new to Plays That Defined, this isn’t a highlight recap, but rather a cathartic retelling of the past season, chapter by chapter.
Don’t vote for your favorite play necessarily, vote for the one that best represents that game’s narrative. I’ll recap the game to refresh your memory, but don’t feel locked in by my narrative.
Week 1 is always wacky as teams try to establish an identity and turn practice time habits into crunch times ones. Out of any game of the season it’s the one I always feel best embodies “a win is a win.” Luckily the Bills came away with one.
But it was a bit scary. Buffalo started off shaky, allowing 17 points in the first half while getting to 10 themselves thanks to a touchdown right before the half.
The Bills climbed back into the game and took the lead at the end of the third quarter. The teams traded blows with the outcome coming down to an eerily familiar last-ditch attempt by Arizona to win the game.
After a couple of nice plays to start the game... catastrophe. I’m not sure there’s much point in discussing this more. Feel free to move on to the next play.
Josh Allen taketh away, and Josh Allen giveth. After a very shaky start, the Bills ended the second half with a seven-play, 70-yard drive capped off with this touchdown by Josh Allen. The first of the season for the team was by none other than the eventual MVP.
While the defense as a whole wasn’t impressive, they came up huge in the second half. With four sacks total in the game, this was the first of the three in the second half. All three of the second-half sacks ended drives. In a one-score game that’s pretty important. Greg Rousseau started off the defensive stand with this loss of eight.
Thank. The. Lord.
