The Club World Cup in being hosted in the United States this summer ahead of the official international World Cup next summer, with MetLife Stadium in New Jersey being one of the venues. As such, grass fields have recently been installed at MetLife ahead of the start of the Club World Cup on Saturday, June 14.

The playing surface at MetLife Stadium has been a topic of conversation for year’s now as the current turf field not only seems to be widely despised by NFL players but also has a statistical history of causing injuries.

While this stat might be a bit dated now, in March 2024, we reported that since 2020, 17 NFL players — including stars such as Nick Bosa and Aaron Rodgers — have suffered either an ACL or Achilles injury while playing at MetLife.

Given that MetLife is installing grass fields for the Club World Cup and regular World Cup without any issue, the NFLPA took the moment to slyly call out the NFL by noting how nice the new grass fields look.

As of the 2023 season, 15 of the NFL stadiums use natural grass, while the other 15 use different types of synthetic turf.

The 2025 FIFA Club World Cup is set to feature 32 teams from across the world, although the manner in which those teams were selected was seemingly ad-hoc. For example, Liverpool, Barcelona, and Napoli — the champions of the English, Spanish, and Italian leagues this season — are not participating in the tournament.

The 32 teams that will feature in the Club World Cup are as follows: Al Ahly, Al Ain, Al Hilal, Atletico Madrid, Auckland City FC, Borussia Dortmund, Botafago, Boca Juniors, River Plate, Monterrey, Pachuca, Flamengo, Chelsea, Esperance de Tunisie, Bayern Munich, Intr Milan, Salzburg, Fluminense, Inter Miami, Juventus, LAFC, Mamelodi Sundowns, Manchester City, Palmeiras, PSG, Real Madrid, Benfica, Seattle Sounders, Ulsan, Urawa Red Diamonds, and Wydad.
