The Pittsburgh Steelers have showed interest in signing another defensive back to their new-look secondary.

The Pittsburgh Steelers may not be done adding to their new-look secondary quite yet. The team recently worked out cornerback Christian Holmes, according to Aaron Wilson of KPRC2.

Holmes, 27, was a seventh-round pick (No. 240 overall) by the Washington Commanders in the 2022 NFL Draft. From 2022-23, he recorded 20 tackles, two fumble recoveries and one pass defensed in 30 games.

The Commanders then released him last season and he was claimed off waivers by the New York Giants. However, Holmes was waived less than a month later.

Holmes began his collegiate career at Missouri (2016-19). There he racked up 65 tackles, 16 passes defensed, two interceptions and one touchdown.

He then transferred to Oklahoma State, where added another 63 tackles, 12 passes defensed and one interception from 2020-21.

“Well-proportioned and well-built, Holmes spent his entire career at cornerback but has size and physicality that is more reminiscent of a safety,” NFL.com analyst Lance Zierlein wrote. “He’s a physical ball-challenger when he’s in position and can step up and support the run effectively. Holmes appears suited for off-man and zone coverages.”

It’s unclear what the Steelers’ plans would be for Holmes if he were to sign with them, but their cornerback room is already very crowded with the likes of Darius Slay, Joey Porter Jr., Jalen Ramsey, Brandin Echols, Cory Trice Jr. and Beanie Bishop Jr.

Meanwhile, Pittsburgh’s safety room is a lot less sorted out. Outside of DeShon Elliott, Juan Thornhill, Chuck Clark, Sebastian Castro and Miles Killebrew are battling it out for the other starting job, which would give Holmes the best chance to make the team’s 53-man roster.
