New Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers took months to decide whether he wanted to return to the NFL or opt for retirement. Ultimately, the four-time league MVP opted to join Mike Tomlin and company in Pittsburgh.
But Rodgers won’t be around for long. At least, not if he sticks to the plan he announced on the “Pat McAfee Show” on Tuesday.
“I’m pretty sure this is it.”

“Yeah, I’m pretty sure this is it,” Rodgers told the show. “You know, that’s why he just did a one-year deal. (The) Steelers didn’t need to put any extra years on that or anything. So this was really just about finishing with a lot of love and fun and peace for the career that I’ve had.
“I mean, I’ve played 20 fricking years. It’s been a long, long run and I’ve enjoyed it and what better place to finish than in one of the cornerstone franchises of the NFL with Mike Tomlin and a great group of leadership, and great guys, and a city that expects you to win.”
Rodgers is right about one thing for certain: the city of Pittsburgh definitely expects the team to win. But they may want to temper that expectation for 2025. Their new quarterback will be 42 years old by the middle of the season and is coming off a year with the Jets, where he had a 48.0 QB rating, the second worst of his career, not counting the 2023 season when he played just one snap.
Who knows, maybe he can find some magic in his final season. Maybe his new marriage will lead to a reborn Aaron Rodgers. But history says that won’t be the case, and if it’s not, the Steelers and their fans are in for a long, difficult 2025 season.
