The Pittsburgh Steelers have a Plan B in case they miss out on Aaron Rodgers, but fans might not like it all that much.

That the Steelers are even in this position might be upsetting to some, as we’re approaching June and they have no idea what their quarterback situation will be like heading into next season.

Rodgers has been the primary target for the team all offseason, yet he’s delayed his decision on whether he wants to play for them or retire.

The veteran quarterback has been afforded some time, though he will have to give Pittsburgh an answer soon, as they aren’t prepared to wait all summer.

Should he opt to retire, the Steelers are thought to have a definite second option in mind.

The Pittsburgh Steelers Could Make A Play For Kirk Cousins If It Doesn’t Work Out With Aaron Rodgers

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the team will look to acquire Kirk Cousins if they don’t get Rodgers.

“I had some conversations with people this week that led me to believe that Cousins is at the very least on the Steelers’ radar, if something were to fall through on Rodgers,” Fowler said on SportsCenter this past Saturday.

Fowler went on to explain how the Steelers could make it happen, pointing out that the Atlanta Falcons would have to offset some of Cousins’ guarantees.

“So to facilitate a trade, Atlanta would need a team to offset some of that money, whether it’s $4 million, $20 million, whatever it is,” he added, noting that the Falcons might not be willing to compromise.

“But the feeling around the league is that Atlanta has not been willing to budge on this. They haven’t shown a lot of interest in trading Cousins, it would take a hefty price tag for another team to wiggle that out. As one source told me, if they were willing to take a small percentage, like let’s say $7 or $8 million of that money, a deal would be done by now. There was interest earlier in the offseason. Right now, Pittsburgh might be the only hope for Cousins or he’s stuck in Atlanta.”

Pittsburgh is still being patient, allowing Rodgers to weigh his options carefully. The quarterback hasn’t publicly set a deadline, although he has been on multiple platforms in recent weeks. It’s also rumored that he could be waiting on the Minnesota Vikings.
