Pittsburgh Steelers Interview Super Bowl-Winning Head Coach

The Pittsburgh Steelers just lost one Super Bowl-winning head coach when Mike Tomlin announced his resignation after 19 seasons on the job. Tomlin never had a losing record, and he was regarded as one of the best coaches in football.

While the Steelers can’t do anything about Tomlin moving on, now they have to figure out how to move forward. Surely, the Steelers don’t have any intentions of taking a step backward. Now, they’ve completed a head coaching interview with another former Super Bowl-winning head coach.

On Wednesday, the Steelers announced that they’ve completed an in-person head coaching interview with Mike McCarthy.

The former Green Bay Packers and Dallas Cowboys head coach sat out of football for the entirety of the 2024 season after being let go in Dallas. Now he’s re-emerged as one of the top coaching candidates in the 2026 NFL hiring cycle.

McCarthy, a Pittsburgh native, has strong ties to Pennsylvania, but he’s yet to work for the Steelers. That could be changing soon, depending on how well the interview process went.

The Steelers have interviewed several candidates to fill their vacancy, including Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores, who has met with the team twice since the offseason kicked off. More in-person interviews with other candidates may be on the way later this week.
