The Pittsburgh Steelers need a quarterback, and have for multiple seasons now following the retirement of Ben Roethlisberger. And, Aaron Rodgers is going to need a home, as he and the Jets are set to part ways.
Many think that Aaron Rodgers is a natural fit in Pittsburgh, and some even consider the Steelers the favorites to land him. But, Pittsburgh Steelers defensive back Deshon Elliott does not want Aaron Rodgers anywhere near the Steelers.
Elliott, a six-year NFL veteran, played his first season with the Steelers last season after signing a deal in free agency. He had a career year, tallying 108 tackles and an interception. Pittsburgh once again found a way to finish over .500 for the 18th straight year under Mike Tomlin, even though they stumbled mightily down the stretch.
Meanwhile, Aaron Rodgers’ first real season as a Jet was a disaster. The four-time MVP played fine, I guess. But, the Jets were a dumpster fire, Rodgers was consistently creating drama, and his lack of leadership was on display, as the team significantly underachieved its talent level significantly.
The Steelers seem unlikely to bring back either Russell Wilson or Justin Fields, the two players who split time at quarterback for the team in 2024. Elliott does not want the replacement to be Aaron Rodgers, that’s for sure.
In a now-deleted Instagram comment on a post about Rodgers joining the Steelers, Elliott said “leave his A– at the retirement home”.
That’s a pretty strong statement, and I think it may be indicative on how a lot of the league’s players feel about Rodgers. Someone is going to sign Aaron Rodgers. There are too many quarterback-needy teams that will hope the 41-year-old looks better in year 2 off the Achilles injury than he did after a year. But, Deshon Elliott certainly hopes it won’t be the Steelers.
