With training camp less than three weeks away, Amari Cooper, Keenan Allen, Gabe Davis, Odell Beckham Jr., Nelson Agholor and Tyler Boyd headline a long list of free agent wide receivers still available.

It’s widely expected that the Pittsburgh Steelers will add one more wide receiver with training camp approaching. The all-in Steelers have signed Aaron Rodgers and pulled off blockbuster trades for superstar wideout DK Metcalf and All-Pro cornerback Jalen Ramsey, but more WR help is needed following George Pickens’ departure.

According to a report from ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Gabe Davis is “an option for Steelers” in free agency. Fowler noted that Davis “really enjoyed” a previous meeting with the Steelers, but he could wait until “closer to training camp” to sign.

The Jacksonville Jaguars released Davis in March, one year into a three-year, $39 million pact he signed in 2024 free agency. The former Buffalo Bills standout had just 20 catches for 239 yards and two touchdowns in 10 games.

Free agent WR Gabe Davis still an option for Steelers on offense, too. He really enjoyed his visit there. Though he could take his time to sign, possibly closer to training camp.

Gabe Davis had his best season for the Bills in 2022, recording 48 passes for 836 yards and seven touchdowns. Nicknamed “Big Game Gabe,” Davis had six touchdowns over the 2021 and 2022 playoffs.

For his career, the speedy wideout has 183 receptions for 2,969 yards and 29 touchdowns. Renowned as a dangerous deep threat, Davis has averaged a ridiculous 16.2 yards per reception.

Gabe Davis Is A Worthwhile Gamble For Steelers

The Steelers don’t have a proven No. 2 wide receiver to help DK Metcalf, so it makes perfect sense to take a chance on a guy who can put up 700-plus receiving yards in a season when he’s healthy.

A new-look Steelers offense of Rodgers, Metcalf, Davis Jonnu Smith, Pat Freiermuth and Jaylen Warren would be a scary thought for the rest of the NFL.
