Artist renderings have been released for a proposed domed stadium that would serve as the home of the NFL’s Kansas City Chiefs.
One of America’s oldest active venues for a professional sports team, Arrowhead Stadium (in Kansas City, Missouri) has been the home of the Kansas City Chiefs since 1972. Officials in the neighboring state of Kansas have proposed plans to get new homes built for the Chiefs and the Kansas City Royals of Major League Baseball.
Earlier this week, the Kansas Legislative Coordinating Council extended the deadline for final decisions from the Chiefs and Royals until June 30, 2026. If the Chiefs stay in Missouri, the plan is to perform significant renovations on Arrowhead Stadium, while the Royals are looking to replace the 52-year-old venue of Kauffman Stadium.
Architect David Manica has crafted artist renderings for a $3 billion domed stadium in Wyandotte County. Here’s a look at what the Chiefs’ potential future home would look like:
If the Kansas City Chiefs move to the state of Kansas, it wouldn’t be the most devastating relocation for local fans. Kansas City, Missouri, and Kansas City, Kansas, are only about 3.3 miles apart (or a seven-minute drive) along the I-70 Highway.
Certainly, it wouldn’t be as drastic as the Oakland Raiders relocating to Las Vegas, the St. Louis Rams moving to Los Angeles or the San Diego Chargers relocating to La La Land.
While folks in Kansas and Missouri anxiously await a final call on the Chiefs’ future, the football team is gearing up for another run at the Lombardi Trophy. Coming off a humiliating loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl 59, Patrick Mahomes and company will try to kick off the new season on a high note when they play the Los Angeles Chargers on Sept. 5.
