Joe Abruzzo, the owner of Bayou Bar & Grill in the Manuyunk neighborhood of Philadelphia, has a message for Washington Commanders fans hoping to watch the NFC Championship Game against the Philadelphia Eagles at his establishment.
“No Commanders fans are even allowed in. As a matter of fact, don’t come by. You’re not allowed in,” Abruzzo says.
Now, that may seem a little silly, but it’s not really all that uncommon in situations like this. After all, why would you want opposing fans rooting against your team in your city during a pivotal playoff game? Especially when that team is a division rival.
But herein lies the catch. Bayou Bar & Grill is an official Washington Commanders bar. At least, that’s what the team website said.
ABC 6 News in Philadelphia reports that Abruzzo was stunned to find out that the Commanders official team website listed his family-owned bar and restaurant as an official Washington Commanders bar.
“At first we thought it was a joke because people started calling,” said Joe Abruzzo, the bar’s owner. “We like bleed green here. As a matter of fact, my dad’s probably rolling around in his grave thinking that they’re calling a guy who’s from Fairmount a Washington R——- fan.”
Abruzzo told the news network that his bar was one of the first in the area to have an NFL Sunday Ticket package. That means that fans of teams from across the league often come in to watch games on Sunday. But make no mistake, he says they bleed green and that will never change.
There’s no question that Eagles fans, as always, are fired up for Sunday’s showdown with Washington. They may have even gone to the extreme lengths of defacing the famous Rocky statue in order in order to get the sports gods on their sides. Any little thing helps when it comes to Philly fans and the Eagles.
