The A.J. Brown trade rumors persist as the Philadelphia Eagles offense has struggled to get the ball to the All-Pro wide receiver. While general manager Howie Roseman won’t trade Brown during the season, the Eagles may have left the door open for the offseason.
“They have received calls on A.J. Brown, and teams are being told, ‘We aren’t moving him now,'” The Athletic’s Dianna Russini reports.
The “now” is what stands out. It makes zero sense for the Eagles to part with a top-five wide receiver as they chase back-to-back Super Bowl championships. There’s also little financial incentive to trade Brown because it would cost them $16 million in cap space this season, according to Over The Cap.
However, if the relationship between Brown and quarterback Jalen Hurts continues to sour and offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo can’t figure out how to get the receiver involved, an offseason move appears possible.
The Eagles would have to rework Brown’s contract before any offseason trade to avoid a $40 million cap hit in 2026.
The Eagles offense has struggled under first-year coordinator Patullo. Philadelphia ranks 30th in both total yards (274.5) and passing yards (179.2) per game and 25th in rushing yards per game (95.3). On the season, Brown has just 25 catches for 274 yards and one touchdown. He has two games with eight or fewer receiving yards and two or fewer receptions, while Saquon Barkley has yet to reach 100 rushing yards after coming off a historic 2,000-yard season.
The Eagles have lost back-to-back games and will look to get back on track Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings.
