Philadelphia Eagles tackle Jordan Mailata reminded everyone that he’s not just a one-trick pony over the weekend, knocking the socks off country music superstar Chris Stapleton in the process. Stapleton joined George Strait for a concert at Lincoln Financial Field, the home of the Eagles, on Saturday night. After the show, Mailata and friends went backstage to meet with Strait and Stapleton.
While speaking with Stapleton, he had a chance to show off his singing chops. Mailata, who stands at 6-foot-8 and 365 pounds, also happens to have a velvety smooth voice. He even appeared on a season of NBC’s “The Masked Singer.” This time around, he absolutely floored Stapleton by singing a snippet of his hit song “Tennessee Whiskey,” which was originally released by David Allen Coe in 1981.

At one point, Stapleton even throws up his hands in disbelief over Mailata’s talent before letting out a yell of “yeah!” and applauding. At 29 years old, Mailata has established himself as one of the NFL’s top left tackles, and he’s likely not ceding that position anytime soon, having signed a three-year, $66 million extension. But should he decide football is no longer for him anymore, the man clearly has a career waiting for him in the music business.
“I think I’ve always liked everything, but I think recently, since I’ve come here, it’s been more country-inspired, country-influenced,” Mailata said recently of his music taste. “It doesn’t help that 70% of the O-line room is from the south, and that’s what they listen to. It doesn’t matter what they look like or where they came from; they all listen to that. In general, I’ve always been into country, but here the country influence has always been there.”
As for a potential music career? Mailata certainly isn’t ruling it out.
“Music is always going to be a part of my life,” he said. “I haven’t really given it too much thought because I think there’s enough time for that later on. You always hear about the Jelly Rolls, the guys that make it later on.”
