Sitting at 5-2 after Sunday’s 28-22 win over the Minnesota Vikings, the Philadelphia Eagles haven’t had much to complain about this season. Yet, after last week’s loss to the New York Giants, the Eagles had one of their players, Za’Darius Smith, retire from the NFL.
He played in just five games, but Smith did make two starts before hanging up his cleats at the age of 33.
Yet, now the Eagles are signing a reinforcement, and oddly enough, they’re pulling him out of retirement.
According to Jeff Kerr of CBS Sports, former Pro Bowl defensive end Brandon Graham is “expected to announce his return” to the Eagles on Tuesday morning.
Graham won’t be returning as a starter either. But the 37-year-old can still help in a rotational pass-rusher role. He’s recorded 3 and 3.5 sacks in the past two seasons, but Graham did record 11 sacks in 2022. He did that all while making just one start.
Yet, it could take the 15-year veteran some time to get up to full speed after being out of football all season long. For now, he’ll do what he can while getting back into game shape, but there’s no reason why he can’t get a few snaps this week against the Giants on Sunday. He’ll then have a bye week to continue ramping up his activity before taking on the Packers on Nov. 10.
