Philadelphia Eagles Reportedly Targeting QB In The 2026 NFL Draft

Jalen Hurts just won Super Bowl MVP less than a year ago, but rumors around the league tell a different story. A new report says the Eagles may already be thinking about what comes after him. It sounds odd, but it would not be new for Philadelphia.

Hurts led the Eagles to another championship and earned Super Bowl MVP honors. He had a strong 2025 season. He completed nearly 65 percent of his passes, threw for 3,224 yards, and finished with 25 touchdowns and just six interceptions. Even with that success, league insiders continue to talk about his long-term future.

Mike Silver of The Athletic reported that some people around the NFL expect the Eagles to draft a quarterback in 2026. Silver pointed to what he called “internal frustration” within the organization. He wrote, “Some NFL sources familiar with the Eagles’ organizational mindset believe they draft a quarterback this spring.”

Hurts remains under contract. He signed a five year, $255 million deal. He turns 28 this year. His 2026 cap hit sits at $31.97 million. None of that stops speculation.

Eagles Keep One Eye On The Future

Hurts did change part of his game last season. He ran the ball only 105 times, his lowest total since his rookie year. His running has always been a big strength, so that drop stood out around the league. He also made history in an unusual way, becoming the first quarterback to turn the ball over twice on the same play.

The Eagles also have a clear habit. They keep drafting quarterbacks, even when they already have a starter. In 2025, they used a sixth-round pick on Syracuse quarterback Kyle McCord. Two years earlier, they drafted Stanford’s Tanner McKee. Before Hurts arrived, they also took Clayton Thorson late in the draft.

That history is why league insiders take this report seriously. The Eagles like having backup plans. General manager Howie Roseman is known for thinking ahead.

The team likely cannot reach top prospects like the Heisman Trophy winner Fernando Mendoza. But other names could enter the mix, like Carson Beck and Trinidad Chambliss, who could get some interest.

Philadelphia replacing Hurts will be a big decision. He is still one of the league’s top quarterbacks and a leader in the locker room. But the Eagles always plan for the future and never rule anything out.
