The Philadelphia Eagles have addressed a critical need ahead of the Nov. 4 trade deadline, acquiring a $30 million cornerback in a trade with the New York Jets.
According to multiple reports, including ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Eagles received Michael Carter II and a 2027 seventh-round pick from the Jets for wide receiver John Metchie and a 2027 sixth-round pick.

Carter was sidelined for three games this year with a concussion but returned for the Jets’ Week 8 win over the Cincinnati Bengals — their first victory of the season. He has struggled in the five games he’s played this season, allowing nine receptions on 13 targets for 123 yards and a 99.2 passer rating.
Despite the down season, Carter was previously considered one of the better slot cornerbacks in the NFL. He earned a three-year, $30.75 million extension in September 2024 under then-general manager Joe Douglas, who was later fired by the Jets and now works in the Eagles’ front office.
ThePhillySpecialShow.com’s Eagles reporter Anthony DiBona points out that Carter has played 2,212 of his 2,610 defensive snaps in the slot, with just 46 snaps at outside corner. The Eagles have struggled finding a CB2 alongside Quinyon Mitchell as Adoree’ Jackson and Kelee Ringo have split time there with mixed results.

The Eagles already have a top nickelback in Cooper DeJean, so it remains to be seen if he will move to outside corner full time with the Carter addition.
Carter restructured his contract to facilitate the trade and join the defending Super Bowl champions, leaving a one-win team behind.
“Here’s how badly Michael Carter II wanted to join the champs: Sources say he agreed to delete the $5M guaranteed for injury in his 2026 contract year to complete the trade to the Eagles,” NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports.

Over 65 games across five seasons with the Jets, Carter recorded two interceptions, 26 pass breakups, three fumble recoveries and one forced fumble.
