Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts helped lead his team to two Super Bowl appearances in the last three seasons and an NFL championship in 2025. But that hasn’t quieted many of his doubters.

Detractors still believe that Hurts is simply a byproduct of the roster around him, which included the league’s best offensive line and several superstars at skill positions. But Hurts defenders, and Eagles fans especially, believe that none of it would work without Hurts pulling the strings.

Now, after weeks of debate, Philadelphia head coach Nick Sirianni has decided to weigh in. And he’s not a fan of the narrative that Hurts was carried by his teammates.

“I think that’s bulls—,” Sirianni said. “I mean, he plays the most important position in all of sports. And it’s the most ultimate team game there is. And what I admire about him is his selflessness of doing anything we need to do to win.”

Sirianni did acknowledge that the Eagles’ roster was perhaps the best in the league. But he also stated that those pieces only work if everyone, including Hurts, is doing their job on an individual level.

“One of the reasons I love football so much is that it takes everybody to accomplish your goals,” he said. “You can go ahead and start naming great quarterbacks, I’ll tell you their great receivers and their great defenses.

“You know, whether it’s Brady with Gronkowski or Brady’s defenses early on, Mahomes with Kelce, Steve Young with Jerry Rice, the list goes on and on and on. I just think sometimes that’s good debate, I guess. I wouldn’t even say it’s good debate. But it’s a debate that people are able to have. But yeah, I guess, my first initial thing was it’s bulls—.”

NFL executives recently named Hurts as the ninth-best quarterback in the NFL. He was unranked on the same list a year ago, but came in sixth on the list in 2023 following the Eagles’ first Super Bowl appearance with him under center.
