Philadelphia Eagles’ 3x Pro Bowler ‘Frustrated’ with Role

All is well with the Philadelphia Eagles after an undefeated 4-0 start to their season. Yet, lying beneath the surface, problems are percolating.

Specifically, the Eagles’ passing offense is a mess. Philadelphia has the NFL’s second-fewest passing yards through four games, and it’s not just because they’re predominantly a rushing offense. They’re only averaging 5.0 yards per pass attempt, which ranks 26th in the NFL. Last year’s Eagles averaged 4.9 yards per rushing play and 6.5 per pass.

Despite the spotless record, the Eagles’ pass-catchers aren’t exactly happy with their roles within the offense. Specifically, The Athletic’s Dianna Russini reports that A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith are “frustrated,” especially with their touchdown production.

Brown has recorded 14 receptions for 151 yards and a touchdown this season. Some players manage to post those numbers in just one game, but that’s been Brown’s workload through four games, so we understand the frustration.

Smith actually has better numbers than his three-time Pro Bowl counterpart. He’s tallied 17 receptions for 158 yards and a touchdown.

Ultimately, with the NFL’s seventh-highest scoring offense, one would think no one in Philadelphia would be complaining. But the best players enjoy showing off their skills, knowing they play a key role in maintaining a winning record.

So far, we just haven’t seen Philadelphia’s receivers relied on often enough for their liking. Perhaps we’ll see that change, but as long as the Eagles keep winning, we’re guessing the top brass won’t care who’s disgruntled in the City of Brotherly Love.
