The two conference championship games in the NFL this past weekend featured four intriguing teams, and the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs emerged victorious and are headed to Super Bowl LIX.
The Eagles punched their ticket to sports’ biggest event by routing the upstart Washington Commanders 55-23 in the NFC title game, and they added some frosting to that victory by outscoring Washington 21-0 in the fourth quarter.
While Philly quarterback Jalen Hurts’ passing stats — 20 of 28 for 246 yards and one touchdown — weren’t very impressive, he scored three rushing touchdowns, and as a result, he was Pro Football Focus’ highest-rated player in the entire conference championship round, per Dov Kleiman.
Underrated: #Eagles QB Jalen Hurts was the HIGHEST-graded (91.4) player in the ENTIRE conference championship round.

Overall, Hurts’ passing numbers this season weren’t as strong as they were in 2023 or 2022, but his passer rating rose to a career-high 103.7 this year, and he remains as much of a threat on the ground as he has ever been.
The addition of star running back Saquon Barkley has taken lots of pressure off of Hurts and has allowed the signal-caller to be himself without having to try to do too much to help his team win.
While there are plenty of people who expect the Chiefs to inevitably clip the Eagles’ wings in the Super Bowl, the Eagles, at least on paper, seem to have the better all-around roster, except, of course, at the quarterback position, where the Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes remains the NFL’s best player in a vacuum.
Philly’s defense has been outstanding, especially since their Week 5 bye, and that could be their ticket to their second Vince Lombardi Trophy in the last eight seasons.
