The Bengals' offensive line is, once again, a question mark going into the season.
Stop me if you’ve heard this before: The Cincinnati Bengals should sign offensive lineman Brandon Scherff.
It feels like we have been beating this drum for months now, and rightfully so. Scherff is a veteran, proven offensive lineman that would immediately solve the Bengals need at guard.
Pro Football Focus’s Mason Cameron is calling for the Bengals to make this move. Cameron says, “Signing Brandon Scherff would amplify the unit, as his 78.0 PFF pass-blocking grade over the past two seasons ranks in the 94th percentile.”
The Bengals have made some moves along the offensive line, but none of them are remotely near the moves they made in 2022 or 2023. Drafting Dylan Fairchild from Georgia is good, and signing Lucas Patrick was solid.
Still, national media members are skeptical about the Bengals' approach to fixing their offensive line. These moves aren’t flashy.
This isn’t splurging as the Bengals did in 2022 with Alex Cappa, Ted Karras, and La’El Collins. It isn’t even a big splash like Orlando Brown Jr. was in 2023.
There is still work to be done on the offensive line.
Scherff is 33 years old, and it remains to be seen if he even wants to play this season. If he does, though, he could be what the Bengals need in the trenches to protect Joe Burrow. If Burrow stays off the turf this season, this offense is going to fly.
