Former Super Bowl winner Pete Carroll became the oldest coach in the National Football League this offseason after agreeing to become the new head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders, who fired Antonio Pierce. Carroll won a Super Bowl as a head coach of the Seahawks in 2014.

While the Seattle Seahawks finished with a 10-7 record last season, they narrowly missed out on qualifying for the NFC Playoffs, thus putting them in a tricky spot this offseason. That offseason uncertainly is further fueled by the fact that there’s been speculation star wide receiver D.K. Metcalf could be traded.

The Seahawks now find themselves embroiled in further trade rumors, as recent video of Pete Carroll chatting up head coach Mike Macdonald, heading into his second season as Carroll’s successor, and general manager John Schneider has sparked speculation that Carroll could explore trading for quarterback Geno Smith.

“Carol and Vegas could be looking to trade for Seattle quarterback Geno Smith…” speculated popular NFL news aggregation account ML Football.

“So is the 6th pick and Max Crosby enough for Geno Smith?” one reply to the video joked.

“Geno will lead them [the Raiders] to a 6-11 record,” a third NFL fan opined.

Carroll helped revitalize Geno Smith’s career in Seattle, as he paved the way for him to become the starter by trading away Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos. Smith has been the starting quarterback in Seattle ever since.

During the 2022 season, his first as a starter since he started in 14 games for the New York Jets in 2014, Smith led the Seahawks to a 9-8 record while completed 69.8% of his passes (which led the league) for 4,282 yards, 30 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions, and also carried the ball 68 times for 366 yards and a touchdown.
