New Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers got married recently. Or, at least, that’s what Rodgers told reporters recently while attending team workouts. But fans are beginning to become a bit skeptical.
Rodgers said that the ring he was wearing is, in fact, a wedding ring. And recent reports claimed only that he married a woman named Brittani. But there’s no actual record of the marriage available to the public and his brother Jordan, who famously appeared on season 12 of The Bachelor, reportedly knows absolutely nothing about this woman.
So when Rodgers was spotted walking alone on the beach on Friday, fans began to wonder if we were going through a Manti Te’o situation. Te’o, of course, is the former Notre Dame and NFL linebacker whose alleged girlfriend, Lennay Kekua, passed away during his senior year of college as he was leading Notre Dame to an undefeated regular season. Only afterward did we find out that Te’o was catfished and that Kekua never actually existed.
Of course, the odds of that happening with Rodgers seem slim. But to this point, the fact that nobody has any proof of the existence of his new wife is pretty bizarre.
“Secondhand, they hear that she’s willing to stay private and that she’s not with him for his fame or money. But they know nothing about her,” a source told the Daily Mail. “This is not a close family unit at all. Right now, JoJo and Jordan are getting the news about the marriage from the internet.”
Is it possible that Rodgers will just keep the identity of his new wife private forever? Yes, in theory. But given the way tabloids and the internet work these days, it would be pretty impressive. Especially considering Rodgers, who considers himself a private person, is seemingly always in front of a camera.
But the longer we go without knowing who this woman is, the crazier the conspiracy theories are likely to get.
