Penalties becoming an issue for Broncos
Mile High Report Mile High Report

On Sunday, the Denver Broncos committed just 6 penalties for only 37-yards. Sometimes, the stat line doesn’t fully illustrate the bigger picture. These penalties are drive killers. They are the holding in the end zone that becomes the difference in the score late into the 3rd quarter. The leverage penalty that flips a win into a loss in an instant.

Overall, if you asked Broncos fans if the team was improved over years prior, no fan would disagree that things are better. The talent and execution have improved, but what about the discipline? Too often, big time plays called back because of a doofus lining up in the neutral zone or an illegal formation (stop covering up the tight end!).

Penalties are drive killers and rhythm disruptors. There’s been way too many of them in this young season. As a result, games that shouldn’t have been close have been closer then they should have ever been or have had the expected outcome change. It’s sloppy and its incredibly costly.

The Broncos showed that they hang with the best when they beat the Philadelphia Eagles two Sundays ago. Four early wins have set the table for Denver to make a run deep into the playoffs, if they want it bad enough. They’ve made the case that there is nobody they can’t beat… unless they beat themselves.
