If NFL fans ever want to nitpick Tom Brady’s legendary career, perhaps the only way to do so is pointing to TB12’s two Super Bowl loss vs. the New York Giants.
New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye still has a long way to go to even be put in the same breath as Brady, but the team’s current signal-caller did lead the group to a decisive win against the Giants on Monday in his first official test against Big Blue.
Maye earned AFC Offensive Player of the Week honors on Wednesday for his performance vs. New York in Week 13 and Boston Sports Journal’s Mike Giardi called the effort his most “Brady-like game.”
“There is only one Tom Brady, but Drake Maye played his most Brady-like game,” Giardi wrote. “He had the answers to the test, taking what the defense was giving him, even when it was short and quick. There were a couple of wow throws, but mostly, this was a 23-year-old quarterback in complete command, carving up the blitz, the base defense, and everything in between. Maye’s the MVP right now.”
The North Carolina product finished the “Monday Night Football” contest 24-for-31 with 282 passing yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions while adding six rushing attempts for 12 yards. Maye recorded a superb 77.4% completion percentage and 126.0 passer rating.
The 23-year-old’s 282 passing yards were tied for the third-most in his young career and his passer rating was the sixth highest in his one-plus seasons as well.
