Ja’Lynn Polk is back on the field — and back in the mix with the receiving corps — after missing the first few days of New England Patriots training camp with a soft-tissue injury.

The second-year wideout suited up in helmet and full pads Monday, marking his first live action of the summer. A video posted by the Patriots on CNLS showed Polk running onto the field ahead of practice, a welcome sign after his early absence raised questions about his status.

Polk had passed his initial physical but was sidelined as a precaution, according to multiple reports. The injury was not believed to be serious, though his lack of participation stood out given his offseason shoulder surgery and yellow jersey designation during spring practices.

Now cleared to resume work, Polk steps into a wide receiver competition that has only grown more crowded.

The former second-round pick appeared in 15 games as a rookie last season, starting seven and finishing with 12 receptions for 87 yards and two touchdowns. His draft stock came on the heels of a breakout year at Washington, but he enters 2025 with no guaranteed role.

New England’s receiver room looks far different this season.

The additions of Stefon Diggs, Mack Hollins and rookie Kyle Williams have raised the bar while DeMario Douglas, Kendrick Bourne and Kayshon Boutte are all back from last year’s group. Even undrafted rookie Efton Chism III has made a strong early impression.

Polk’s return comes just in time. With jobs on the line, every rep matters.
