It might not be a perfect day in Foxboro, Mass., on Sunday, but Patriots fans should stay dry during New England’s much-anticipated season opener.
The Patriots will host the Las Vegas Raiders with kickoff set for 1 p.m. ET. As of this writing, the National Weather Service forecasted slight chances of rain for the morning hours through roughly midday.
However, the NWS also indicated conditions should improve before kickoff, a forecast echoed by meteorologist Christina Erne of Rhode Island-based WJAR-TV.
“Despite isolated morning showers and lingering clouds Sunday, game time shapes up to be brighter at Gillette,” Erne wrote Thursday in an X post. “Less humid, too, but noticeably cooler.”
So, in other words: great football weather. Rejoice!
Of far greater importance to the Patriots is the uncertain Week 1 status of Christian Gonzalez. The star cornerback didn’t practice Tuesday or Wednesday due to a hamstring injury that has sidelined him since early in training camp. Barring a stunning turnaround, a third-year pro likely will sit out Sunday’s matchup.
