The New England Patriots took another step toward moving on from last year’s draft class.

New England waived guard Layden Robinson with an injury designation on Sunday. The 24-year-old could wind up on the injured reserve if he clears waivers.

Selected with the No. 103 pick out of Texas A&M last season, Robinson started six games at right guard and five at left guard. His 43.6 overall grade on Pro Football Focus ranked 129th out of 136 eligible guards.

The Patriots remade their offensive line during the offseason. Along with signing center Garrett Bradbury and right tackle Morgan Moses, they drafted left tackle Will Campbell with the No. 4 overall pick. Mike Onwenu should start at right guard, but left guard remains an open competition.

New England could turn the page from two more of last season’s starters. According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the Patriots are willing to trade Vederian Lowe and Demontrey Jacobs.

Robinson also may not be the last 2024 draft pick jettisoned before Tuesday’s 53-man roster deadline. Before the Patriots waived Robinson, ESPN’s Mike Reiss explored a “growing possibility” of Drake Maye being the only member of that draft class to start the season on their active roster.

The Patriots traded quarterback Joe Milton III to the Dallas Cowboys, waived tight end Jaheim Bell and placed cornerback Marcellas Dial Jr. on the injured reserve. Wide receiver Ja’Lynn Polk is also expected to go on the IR, leaving third-round guard Caedan Wallace and fourth-round wideout Javon Baker as the remaining players fighting for a spot.
