The New England Patriots continued work on the New Orleans Saints with a question mark at cornerback.
Christian Gonzalez was added as a limited participant on Thursday. The reigning All-Pro missed the first four games of the regular season due to a hamstring injury stemming from the first padded practice of training camp. During his second start back, however, he stayed in to play every defensive snap.
Four teammates were sidelined in Foxborough.
Here’s the second injury report heading into Sunday’s 1 p.m. ET kickoff at the Caesars Superdome.
A move to injured reserve is imminent for Gibson. The running back sustained a season-ending torn ACL on a kickoff return last weekend against the Buffalo Bills. It was a 23-20 win that White did not finish due to an elbow injury. The defensive end has since been a non-participant for consecutive practices along with Hawkins at safety. But Jennings marked a new absence on Thursday. The veteran outside linebacker was previously available in a partial capacity because of an ankle issue.
Five in all were limited for the Patriots on Thursday. In addition to No. 0, the group included disruptive starters on the defensive line and off the edge. While Williams carried a questionable status into the initial game of October, Chaisson was downgraded to out on the eve of the 8:20 p.m. ET kickoff at Highmark Stadium. The former first-rounder out of LSU has since participated in back-to-back sessions after practicing through his knee injury only once last week.
Barmore was upgraded to full-go after beginning Saints prep among the limited. As for Onwenu, he remained in full after a recent shoulder injury was followed by a thigh injury. New England’s starting right guard has handled all 304 offensive snaps dating back to the September opener.
