With the New England Patriots set to wear their beautiful, vintage uniforms on Sunday in a clash with the Pittsburgh Steelers, it feels like the appropriate time to dispute a recent report hating on another Patriots uniform from the past.

This week, Bleacher Report’s Michelle Bruton ranked the 15 worst NFL uniforms of all time. Preposterously, New England’s 1990s “Flying Elvis” unis made it onto Bruton’s list at No. 12.

“In 1993, after putting the “Pat Patriot” era to bed, the Patriots debuted their modern logo, which was affectionately (?) nicknamed the “Flying Elvis,” Bruton wrote.

“The early iteration of that uniform was short-lived, for the better; the gray facemask and different-colored numbers on the chest and shoulders were unappealing. In 1995, New England went all-in on its new logo, planting two enormous Flying Elvises on the shoulders of its jerseys. In case you didn’t know, football players are large men, and yet these Flying Elvis decals dwarfed their shoulders one and all.”

“As with many of the uniforms to land on this list, some Patriots fans will insist the enormous Elvises look great,” Bruton added. “You should never argue with a New Englander, so don’t even try.”

Bruton is certainly correct about New Englanders having a special place in their hearts for the Flying Elvis uniforms. The jerseys bring back the heyday of guys like Curtis Martin, Terry Glenn and Drew Bledsoe — what’s not to like about that?
