A New England Patriots rookie may pose a matchup nightmare for opposing defenses in 2025.
TreVeyon Henderson is drawing rave reviews early in training camp. MassLive’s Mark Daniels said the running back “looked good” in practice Monday, recording five catches and four touchdowns in red-zone drills. The No. 38 seems poised to give New England a prolific pass-catching backfield option alongside Rhamondre Stevenson.
Stevenson gave an ominous warning to any linebackers who may attempt to cover Henderson.
“They better be able to move, ’cause he’s fast,” Stevenson said Monday, per MassLive’s Karen Guregian.
Stevenson led the Patriots in rushing last season, but Antonio Gibson would often spell him as a third-down back. Henderson may fill that role with the chance to offer big-play upside as a runner and receiver.
Henderson averaged 6.4 yards per carry and amassed 42 rushing touchdowns at Ohio State, but the 22-year-old may make a bigger early impact catching passes from Drake Maye. Stevenson, who could remain the offense’s featured runner, expects the Patriots’ backs to work well together.
“I think we all do everything. We’re all every-down backs,” Stevenson said. “I think we all bring something different to the table. I feel like we’re pretty diverse back there.”
Courtesy of Daniels, Henderson said Monday that he’s growing increasingly confident as he gets acclimated to Josh McDaniels’ offense.
“I’m definitely getting more comfortable just playing in the NFL in general,” Henderson said. “It definitely takes time to get adjusted to it, so I feel like the Patriots, the way they organize practice, the way they push us outside of our comfort zone, I feel like they’ve been doing a good job of helping me and pushing me to get better.”
