New England Patriots - NESN.com
The Patriots essentially kicked off trade season last week, and a busy couple of days leading up to Tuesday’s trade deadline could see New England continue to make moves.
Kyle Dugger and Keion White were the first two players the Patriots sent out, getting picks in return for players who had fallen out of favor. But there are personnel needs on the roster, and buying is very much on the table for the Patriots.
Running back is an obvious area that could be added to. A splash like Alvin Kamara seems unlikely, but the Jerome Fords of the world might be in play. Pass rushing remains an area of need on the defensive side of the ball.
All of which to say, a lot can happen between now and 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday. Keep it here for any informed chatter that could impact the Patriots.
Quinnen Williams heads to Dallas as Jerry Jones continues his Hail Mary to save the season. Bad luck for the Patriots that a handful of the top pass-rushers were on teams within the division.
Tuesday, 2pm: Two hours left until the deadline. Here’s the latest.
There have been splashes. The Jets sent Sauce Gardner to the Colts — a fitting response to the Jaguars landing Jakobi Meyers, a potential Patriots target.
Rashid Shaheed is another wideout on the move. He goes to Seattle and joins a Seahawks offense that’s getting even more dangerous.
Aaron Rodgers, unsurprisingly, is being reunited with a former Packers teammate, with Marquez Valdes-Scantling getting traded to the Steelers.
Pass rushers keep getting moved, as well, with Joe Tryon-Shoyinka heading from Cleveland to Chicago.
Tuesday, 10:50am: Some names to watch this afternoon as things heat up.
Mazi Smith: Cowboys defensive tackle who was a healthy scratch Monday. A 2023 first-round pick, he’s been unable to make much of an impact and could use a change of scenery.
Bradley Chubb: Dolphins are likely to tear things down. Chubb’s best days are behind him but he’d be a solid addition to a pass-rushing group.
Von Miller: This might be a stretch but the Commanders could end up selling with their season never getting off the ground while being ravaged by injuries. Like Chubb, he’s more name recognition at this point.
TUESDAY, 10:45am: Pass-rushers are flying off the board. Dre’Mont Jones is headed to Baltimore from the Titans, and the Bengals sent Logan Wilson to Dallas. The Ravens component of things is interesting, as they have become buyers and clearly think they can make a playoff push.
Though the Patriots seem unlikely to have to fight for a wild-card spot to make the postseason, a team like the Ravens putting things together and sneaking into the playoffs would shake up the AFC.
MONDAY, noon: Dominos already are falling. The Miami Dolphins sent pass rusher Jaelan Phillips to the Philadelphia Eagles for a 2026 third as Howie Roseman continues to add. A teardown could be coming for the Dolphins, but despite the Patriots’ need for...
