The New England Patriots have a clearer picture about who will be under center when they head to Tennessee for a highly-anticipated matchup against the Titans in Week 7.

On Monday, the Titans announced that quarterback Will Levis is set to undergo season-ending shoulder surgery, which comes from an injury he sustained during the 2024 season.

“After consulting with doctors and his representatives, Will Levis has decided to undergo shoulder surgery that will sideline him for the entire 2025 season,” the team wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter. “We support his decision to focus on his long-term health. He approached the offseason with professionalism and showed clear growth as a leader. We remain confident in his recovery.”

ESPN reports that Levis “experienced discomfort during minicamp,” which is why he “started seeking additional medical opinions before deciding to have surgery.” The surgery will be performed July 29.

And with that, it means the Patriots will likely be facing Cam Ward, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Ward and Levis were competing throughout OTAs for the starting role, alternating first-team reps. However, the season is now in Wards’ hands.

Brandon Allen, who has history with Titans head coach Brian Callahan from his time with the Cincinnati Bengals, is expected to serve as the backup with Levis out.

The Patriots-Titans game is expected to be a fun one, as head coach Mike Vrabel returns to Tennessee after serving as head coach there for six seasons. And, it’ll be Ward vs. Drake Maye, which is guaranteed to deliver plenty of highlight plays.
