New England Patriots fans got a sneak peek at Stefon Diggs’ agility — just not the way they expected.

During Wednesday’s training camp kickoff at Gillette Stadium, Diggs found himself in hot pursuit of a runaway pup after the dog bolted around the practice field entrance.

The moment, posted by Patriots on CLNS, showed Diggs setting the small Beagle mix down near the sideline. Within seconds, the dog wriggled free and took off toward a media platform before vanishing out of frame.

Diggs, who is on the way back from an ACL tear in his right knee, looked more than game to chase the energetic pup. He moved well considering the circumstance, showing off quick bursts and sharp cuts that fans in Foxborough hope to see more of once the season begins.

The hilarious clip came as part of the Patriots’ “Pawtriots” adoption event, a partnership between the Kraft family, the Patriots Foundation and several regional rescue organizations.

The initiative brought dogs of all breeds and ages to the first day of camp, with players walking them onto the field to the delight of the crowd. Adoption tables were set up along the concourse for fans hoping to take home a new best friend.

“We’re proud to kick off training camp with a cause close to our hearts,” said Robert Kraft per a team statement. “Every dog deserves a loving home.”

The event marked a follow-up to the Patriots Foundation’s earlier effort in May and featured shelters like the Potter League for Animals, Berkshire Humane Society and the Animal Rescue League of Boston.

On a day meant to spotlight new beginnings for both players and pets, it was Diggs’ impromptu scamper that stole the show.
