A late scare won’t appear to sideline a key New England Patriots player for Sunday’s game against the New Orleans Saints.
The Patriots added Milton Williams to the injury report on Sunday morning, listing the defensive tackle as questionable due to an illness. However, he’s officially active for the Week 6 showdown at the Superdome.
Christian Gonzalez is also active for Sunday’s game after being listed as questionable. The star cornerback, who sat out the first three games with a hamstring injury, was a limited participant in Friday’s practice.
The Patriots ruled out Anfernee Jennings, Jaylinn Hawkins, Keion White, Caedan Wallace and Eric Gregory for Week 6. Tommy DeVito is the emergency third quarterback.
Losing Williams would have been a tough break for New England. The star offseason acquisition has already cemented himself as a defensive linchpin with 13 tackles and 2.5 sacks in five games.
Williams has anchored a defensive interior that’s allowed the fourth-fewest rushing yards per game (85.6) and yards per carry (3.5) this season. They’ll face a steep test against Alvin Kamara, who is active for Sunday’s game despite an ankle injury.
Although Williams is active, it remains unclear whether the unspecified illness will limit his availability on Sunday.
New England’s defense also welcomes back edge rusher K’Lavon Chaisson, who missed last Sunday’s win over the Buffalo Bills with a knee injury. The former first-round pick registered 2.5 sacks and six pressures in four games.
Sunday’s game between the Patriots and Saints starts at 1 p.m. ET on CBS.
