The New England Patriots are two wins away from being back in the Super Bowl, and right now the Houston Texans are in their way.

The Patriots will take on the Texans on Sunday with a trip to the AFC Championship on the line. Even this late in the season, however, the roster remains fluid, and changes continue to be made. On Tuesday, the Patriots signed Trent Sherfield Sr. to the practice squad.

Sherfield has played eight seasons in the NFL and is a candidate to be elevated if the Patriots deal with some injuries. He is an experienced option who has had some success. This season, he has played for the Denver Broncos and the Arizona Cardinals.

He signed with the Broncos before the season. He played in 10 games, starting three, and caught three passes for 21 yards. Denver released him in November and the Cardinals signed him in December. He played two games for the Cardinals and was released.

Sherfield has played in 124 games with 14 starts and has 89 receptions for 1,034 yards. He has scored six touchdowns in his career. His best season came with the Miami Dolphins in 2022, when he recorded 30 receptions for 417 yards.

The Patriots could be the third AFC East team he has played for if he is elevated. He spent time with the Buffalo Bills as well. He has played in seven playoff games, and he is a solid player for the Patriots to stash on the practice squad.

He has played for six teams in the NFL, originally signing with the Cardinals as a free agent out of college. In addition to the Cardinals, Broncos, Dolphins and Bills, he has played for the Minnesota Vikings and San Francisco 49ers.
