The New England Patriots have spent the majority of their offseason beefing up their roster with players they believe can help them win immediately in 2025. One player who fits that billing is third-round wide receiver Kyle Williams.
With the Patriots wide receiver corps needing more top-end talent, they selected Williams with the No. 69 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. After putting together a standout 2024 season with the Washington State Cougars (70 receptions, 1,198 yards, 14 touchdowns), Williams could be a big-play threat right out of the gate for New England.
Of course, it will take time for Williams to find his footing in the NFL. Not only is he adapting to playing in the pros, but he also finds himself in a completely new environment on the east coast after previously spending the majority of his life living out west.
The good news for Williams and the Patriots is that he is embracing his new home, which will quickly make him popular among fans. One thing that has stood out to him in particular is the Boston sports scene, which drew some eye-opening comments from the former Washington State star.
“It’s huge. You see Patriots everywhere. You see Celtics everywhere. Just seeing the love this town has for sports, it makes you want to give back and compete harder,” Williams said, per Mike Reiss of ESPN.
Williams was among the group of rookies who visited with the Boston Celtics last week, as he hilariously noted he was hoping to earn a 10-day contract from the team. No such deal came his way, though, meaning he will continue working on carving out a role with the Pats.
Competition is going to be tough at wide receiver, but Williams should be a lock for a spot on the initial 53-man roster. The same could be said for Stefon Diggs, Mack Hollins, and Demario Douglas, meaning Kendrick Bourne, Kayshon Boutte, Ja’Lynn Polk, and Javon Baker will likely be fighting for the final spots at this position.
Williams isn’t looking to just make the Patriots roster, though; he’s looking to make an immediate impact and establish himself in the Boston sports scene. He’s got the right mindset, and that should serve him well as he transitions from college to the NFL.
